Thomas Rowlandson
English Illustrator, 1756-1827,English caricaturist, watercolourist, draughtsman and engraver. Although he is commonly thought of as a satirist, most of his drawings are gently humorous, and in some cases objective, records of urban and rustic life. With the exception of a small number of topographical drawings, they are characterized by an abundance of picaresque incidents, whether robust or sentimental, and have much in common with the novels of Laurence Sterne and Henry Fielding, which Rowlandson illustrated in 1808 and 1809. Related Paintings of Thomas Rowlandson :. | Madame Sophie of France | Landscape with Orion or Blind Orion Searching for the Rising Sun | An Autumn Landscape with a View of Het Steen in the Earyl Morning | Portrait of Mere Marguerite d'Youville | Cats in Posters | Related Artists: Jacob Abels (1803 - 1866) was a Dutch painter.
He was born in Amsterdam in 1803, and was instructed in art by Jan van Ravenswaay, the animal painter. In 1826 he visited Germany, and on his return settled at the Hague. He distinguished himself especially in painting moonlight landscapes. The Museum at Haarlem has works by him. Abels died at Abcoude in 1866.
